FAQ – Boudoir

What is a boudoir session?
That is up to you!  We would consider boudoir playful, sexy, and/or sensual.  You could treat it as a fashion shoot, go for a pin-up style portrait, or go for something more provocative.  We think of our style as a bit of Vanity Fair with a splash of Maxim.

Why boudoir?
There are plenty of reasons but most often it is for the groom as a gift on the wedding day or for a loved one for a birthday or holiday.  Boudoir books make for great birthday presents, Valentine’s Day gifts, stocking stuffers, or anytime-presents, especially for those in long distance relationships.  Some people do them as a reward for hitting a certain goal, before/after plastic surgery, or just for themselves to celebrate how they look during that time of their lives.

Would a boudoir book be good for a military wife to mail overseas?
Absolutely!  In that scenario, you can apply the entire session fee towards the purchase of a book, in essence giving you a free shoot!  We support our troops… and we support those who support our troops.

What if I have no modeling experience whatsoever?
Don’t worry – most people do not!  We will give you direction for positioning, facial expressions, etc.  Almost everyone is nervous in the beginning, but all of our boudoir clients have admitted that they end up having a lot of fun!

Where should the session take place?
That is up to you.  It could be in your home, a friend’s house, in a hotel room, on a boat, in an office – be creative!

Will the session be private?
Absolutely.  A lot of the time the shoots are a surprise for a significant other so the less we say and the fewer people who know about it the easier it is to keep it a secret.

Will my boudoir images be posted on the internet?
Due to the sensitive nature of boudoir photography, we NEVER post your images publicly on our website without your express written permission.  Your images will be hosted in a personalized password-protected site for your review and print/product purchase.

Who will be shooting my boudoir images?
You can choose between Steve, Emily, or both.  Some of our clients are more comfortable with a woman photographer, some prefer getting the male perspective.  We tend to do our best work when we collaborate, but you can always kick one of us out of the room for certain shots.

Who else will be there?
You are more than welcome to bring a friend to increase your comfort level but having too many people around can be very distracting for both you and us.

My significant other knows I am doing this; can they be there?
Yes.  Tell them to get in some shots, too!  It is the same price if it is one person, a couple, or a mixture of the two.

Do you provide clothing or lingerie?
We usually bring a men’s button down white shirt and a couple of neckties.  As for lingerie, that is not something most strangers feel comfortable sharing so please bring your own!  If you’d like some guidance about what will look best in camera, feel free to email Emily with questions.

What should I bring to wear?
Obviously that depends on what you have in mind for the feel of the session, but bringing a few outfits works well.  Heels, boots, jeans, gloves, hats, lingerie are all good ideas.  Raiding his closet for shirts, ties, or boxers works as well.  Think of some props that relate to his likes / hobbies as well – football jerseys, cowboy hats, etc.

Do you take topless or nude photos during the boudoir shoot?
We can, but that is completely up to you.  We have a quick questionnaire (via email) for you to fill out before your shoot so all the details and limits are established ahead of time.  We are both completely comfortable with full or partial nudity, either in final images or during the shoot when trying to imply nudity.

What is a marathon boudoir shoot?
This is where a group of girls get together and each have a mini-boudoir shoot, back to back to back.  We found that this makes for a good alternative to a traditional bachelorette party, a birthday party or really any celebratory get-together.

What are the advantages of a marathon boudoir shoot?
They allow for some of the costs to be split for hair, make-up, and props and makes it easier to go in on hotel rooms (one for shooting, one for getting ready.)  Also, if you are around friends you might be more comfortable, they might give you some good ideas, and it gives you an excuse to get away for a bit if you are doing it as a surprise gift.

Why do I have to pay everything up front for a boudoir shoot?
Consider it motivation!  Some people want to do this but get nervous the day of the shoot.  Getting your money back is not an option, so the odds of you following through on your ambitions are therefore much higher having paid in full.  You will be more than happy you did it – just consider it the extra little push for those who are debating the idea.

Where can I see your boudoir images?
To protect the privacy of our clients we prefer to showcase the majority of our boudoir images at in-person consultations.  We are planning on creating a small gallery of images (only with the model’s permission, of course!) to help you determine if our style is right for you.  To be alerted when this gallery is available, or to schedule an in-person consultation, please contact us by clicking the link at the top of this page or email us.
